It is with a heavy heart that we announce that Shama Yoga will be closing its doors on Thursday May 21st 2015.

The time and cost required of us to keep our doors open at this location have led us beyond the threshold of our financial abilities.

As with any unexpected news comes many questions, and we will do our best to answer some of them here.

In the spirit of transparency, rent and operating costs in Cambridge are some of the highest in Boston and the surrounding towns. As our lease came up for renewal, it was evident that our costs would rise beyond what we could reasonably maintain without passing the burden on to the community. We have strived to keep classes affordable while at the same time appropriately remunerating the wonderful group of teachers we have been fortunate enough to learn with.

The on-and-off again water-sewer construction project, and the timing of this years’ long and harsh winter had an additional impact on us making it difficult to recover.

It has been a humbling experience to lead this beautiful community. We are grateful for all the joys and tears we have shared together. Thank you to each of you that have been a part of this vibrant, joyful, supportive, warm and welcoming community.

Experience teaches us that when a chapter closes many new possibilities that were once unimagined begin to open themselves up.

Nicci will continue teaching privately from her home in Cambridge. The path of offering deeper studies and intensives as well as retreats is on the horizon.

Shivani will continue teaching privately from her home in Arlington and intends to teach at different yoga studios within the surrounding areas.

To stay in touch with us including the teachers, please reach out to each person individually. Contact information will be posted on the community board in the studio as well as on our website. We will do our best to guide you on further in finding a new studio to continue your studies.

Until our closing date, we encourage you to come in and continue with your studies and open to the nourishment and support that is available. We still need your support to stay open until the last day!

From this point forward we will be offering drop-in classes at a rate of $10. Existing 10 class cards or passes with expirations will be honored until the closing date. Monthly memberships will not renew after April 15th.

If you would still like to purchase a 10-class card, this will be available if you think you will use it before the closing date.

Class cards are non-refundable and non-transferable. There are no extensions available on class cards that have expired or are about to expire.

We are here to answer your questions to the best of our ability and will happily offer guidance in continuing your practice.

We are deeply grateful for your support and encouragement and feel blessed for all that we have had the opportunity to learn.

There will be an opportunity to gather together in community and ceremony. Please join us by registering online as Nicci teaches a closing class on Thursday evening May 21st at 6pm. This class will be followed by a community potluck.

May the road ahead be paved with light & love.

With deepest gratitude,

Nicci & Shivani
